49ers vs. Raiders Prediction, NFL Picks & Odds For Preseason Week 1: 8/13

My Post-1 - 2023-07-27T140657.889

We should be in for an exciting matchup on Sunday as San Francisco and Las Vegas kick off their preseason by taking on each other. Both teams have question marks at the quarterback position with things seemingly clearer for the Raiders and Jimmy Garoppolo who is currently operating without any restrictions. The one glaring absence, although he likely would have been playing on Sunday, is Josh Jacobs.

There are a lot of questions for each team that will be answered this summer, and that journey begins on Sunday. As we receive clarification on those outstanding issues, and get a full year of the 49ers’ offense at full strength, there is still a game to be played on Sunday. There are multiple directions for things to go in, so now, let us jump into our 49ers vs. Raiders prediction with the odds provided by FanDuel Sportsbook.

49ers vs. Raiders Prediction for NFL Preseason Week 1 on Sunday, 8/13

Perhaps the biggest question in San Francisco heading into the 2023 season, is who will be playing under center. Last season, the 49ers cycled through multiple signal callers before settling, by default, on Brock Purdy. The rookie led them to the NFC Championship game before he too got hurt and now the 49ers appear to have three options with Trey Lance back and Sam Darnold now in the fold.

Purdy is practicing so far this summer, but at this point, the 49ers are still planning to hold him out of game action. As we sort out who will be the Week 1 quarterback for San Francisco, the 49ers will have the edge under center with Trey Lance and Sam Darnold both available. Even while Christian McCaffrey will likely not be on the field Sunday, there are still some intriguing options in Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price.

49ers vs. Raiders NFL Picks & Best Bets

While Garoppolo entered the summer without restrictions, I am not sure that we will see him on Sunday as the Raiders look to play things cautiously. It is also unclear how much playing time Las Vegas gives to Brian Hoyer which means we will see a lot of Aidan O’Connell and Chase Garbers. And with that being the case, San Francisco and their strong defense will have the edge.

The biggest question looming over the Raiders is when will Josh Jacobs actually report. With the franchise tag pending, Jacobs is in no rush to show up to training camp, and before he does Zamir White will be leading the charge. Without Jacobs, there is a large hole in the Raiders’ offense which should be evident on Sunday.

Now that we have gone through our 49ers vs. Raiders prediction, our best bet is to take the 49ers -4 (-110 at FanDuel Sportsbook) to emerge victorious.
